Built to Your Plan, or Designed From Scratch

Built to Your Plan, or Designed From Scratch

Some clients come to us with exactly what they want already drawn up, and we'll build it to that plan. Just as often, a client knows they want more usable outdoor space but hasn't landed on the details yet, in which case we'll help design something that actually suits your section, your sun, and how you'll use it, rather than a standard layout that doesn't quite fit.

We build in timber and composite decking, and both attached and freestanding pergolas, open or roofed. Every job is a full supply and install contract, covered by our LBP licence (LBP139411), full insurance and a 5 year warranty. Decks and pergolas often get scoped in alongside a renovation or wider landscaping job if you're already working with us on one.

Deck Types

Ground-Level or Raised, Timber or Composite

Ground-level timber deck freshly finished, off a brick home.

Ground-Level, Timber

Sits low, no balustrade usually needed, suits a patio-style space right off the house.

Ground-level composite decking in a garden setting.

Ground-Level, Composite

Lower maintenance, holds its colour longer, at a different price point to timber.

Raised timber deck with balustrade and steps.

Raised, With Balustrade

Sits higher off the ground, needs a proper balustrade above a certain height, suits a sloping section.

A ground-level deck sits low, doesn't usually need a balustrade, and suits a patio-style space right off the house. A raised deck sits higher off the ground, needs a proper balustrade for safety once it's above a certain height, and works well where the section slopes or you want a more defined outdoor room. We build both, and we'll talk through which suits your section rather than defaulting to one or the other.

Timber gives a natural look that needs periodic oiling or staining to keep its finish. Composite decking is lower maintenance and holds its colour longer, at a different price point. We supply and install both, and we'll help you weigh up the trade-offs for your project.

Talk to Us About Your Deck

Pergolas

Attached or Freestanding Pergolas

An attached pergola ties into your house or an existing deck, extending the covered space you already use. A freestanding pergola stands on its own elsewhere on the section, wherever the sun, the view, or the layout works best. Roofing can be left open for dappled shade, or covered, like a solid roof over a deck for proper shelter from Canterbury's weather. We'll talk through what you actually want the space for before landing on a design.

Attached Pergola

  • Ties into your house or an existing deck, extending the space you already use
  • Usually a simpler structure to build since it shares a wall or fascia line
  • Suits a covered outdoor living space right off the house

Freestanding Pergola

  • Stands on its own anywhere on the section, wherever the sun or view works best
  • Not limited by an existing wall or deck, so placement is flexible
  • Suits a standalone entertaining space or garden feature away from the house

A Real Design Service

Designed to Suit Your Section

Not everyone starts with a finished plan, and that's fine. If you know you want more outdoor space but haven't worked out the shape, size or layout yet, we'll design it with you, factoring in your section's sun, slope and how you'll actually use it, rather than starting from a generic template. If you've already got a plan or an architect's drawing, we'll build to that instead.

What Affects the Cost of Your Deck or Pergola

We don't publish set prices for decks or pergolas, since size, height and material choice all change the job significantly. The main variables are the size of the deck or pergola, whether it's ground-level or raised (and whether a balustrade is required), timber or composite decking, whether the pergola is open or roofed, and whether council consent is needed for your project. The only way to get a real figure is a site visit and a proper quote, which is free and comes with no obligation.
